A number of Pakistani affiliates of Building and Wood Workers International – the federation that groups unions from the building, building materials, wood, forestry and allied sectors – are holding a range of activities to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day. Below are details of the various activities in a listing that will be continually updated as we hear of more:
ACE Employees Union (ACEEU) is organising a plant-level meeting with employees.
Pakistan Federation of Building and Wood Workers (PFBWW) is organising a meeting at Tarbela Dam to mark 28 April. The PFBWW will also convene a bigger event on May Day that will involve messaging on International Workers’ Memorial Day.
Revisiting commitment to uphold health and safety – BWI Affiliates convene OHS meetings with employers who signed joint declarations – ACEEU, Pakistan (Construction Workers) and RPKNMS, India (Construction & Stone Quarry Workers)
To mark 28 April, BWI affiliates ACEEU and PFBWW both plan to raise awareness of health and safety issues through meetings and seminars at infrastructure sites.
Building Wood Workers’ International (BWI) affiliates in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh have planned a wide range of activities to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day. Those activities will include workshops, roadshows, meetings, candlelight vigils, training, press events, seminars, silicosis screening a mega health camp and a human chain.
BMS In Gujarat one-day workshop on occupational health and safety will be held in association with the employer’s association and the Government along with a Road show on construction workers safety and health issues on 28th April.

TKTMS Workers rally and press meeting in Dharampuri District, Tamil Nadu. Over 1,000 workers are expected to participate. Victims and affected families shall also share experiences at the press meeting.
