Quote: Sharan Burrow, CSI

Quote: Sharan Burrow, CSI

Quote: Sharan Burrow, ITUC

“Making occupational health and safety a fundamental ILO right will increase the accountability of governments and employers to stop the carnage and give more leverage to unions and workplace safety representatives. Only bad employers would resist this and we are prepared to fight hard to save lives.”

Sharan Burrow, ITUC General Secretary.

Quote: Sharan Burrow, ITUC

Quote: Sharan Burrow, CSI

Quote: Sharan Burrow, ITUC

“We call it making a living, yet working people continue to be exposed to lethal substances. Today we pay our respects to those who paid the ultimate price at work. In their memory we continue to fight for the living,”

Sharan Burrow, ITUC General Secretary.

Quote: Sharan Burrow, ITUC

“Work shouldn’t be dangerous. We should be making things, not making orphans. Our strategy will use the full union rep toolbox – from negotiation, to representation, to action – to organise for decent, safe and healthy work.”

Sharan Burrow, ITUC general secretary

Irrespective of the rhetoric

“… irrespective of the rhetoric, workplace safety doesn’t come first, or even second or third when it comes to the priorities of governments or most corporations.”

Michael Quinlan, author of  Ten pathways to death and disaster.

If they expose us, we will expose them

“Some of the world’s most profitable companies are not just defending their toxic products, they are defending weak exposure standards that mean they profit and you pay. It is not ethical, it is not healthy and it is not what we bargained for. We make this pledge – if they expose us, we will expose them.”

Sharan Burrow, ITUC General Secretary

Hell no!

Work shouldn’t be hell, it shouldn’t hurt and it certainly shouldn’t kill. Work should be fulfilling, safe and worthwhile. Union organisation can make this happen.

Sharan Burrow, ITUC general secretary
