Kenya: Quarry and mine workers plant trees to honour work victims

Kenya: Quarry and Mine workers’ union (KQMWU) held the #IWMD22 campaign at Mombasa cement with emphasis on OHS. The commemoration was also done by planting trees at the company to remember workers who have died in the course of work.

Ghana: TWU 28 April activities in Kokuago Brang Ahofo  Region

Ghanaian affiliate Timber and Woodworkers’ Union (TWU) will hold a #iwmd22 commemoration in Kokuago Brang Ahofo  Region, Wiawso, Ghana, distribute materials to workplaces to raise awareness  of workers’ safety, and ensure at least three company signatures of the BWI OHS Declaration that work safety be considered a fundamental human right.

Senegal: BWI affiliates to raise awareness of work safety issues in SMEs to mark 28 April

Global building unions’ federation BWI has announced the 28 April plans of its Senegal affiliates.

National Union of Construction and Civil Works of Senegal (SNTC/BTP) will conduct workplace campaigns to promote occupational safety in the small and middle enterprises to create awareness of workplace safety issues.

 

Nigeria: BWI affiliates to raise awareness of asbestos and construction safety to mark 28 April

Global building unions’ federation BWI has announced the 28 April plans of its Nigerian affiliates.

Lagos – Nigeria. The National Union of Civil Engineering Construction, Furniture & Wood Workers (NUCECFWW) will hold a national protest action against building collapses in Nigeria; the aim is to raise awareness in employers and the public of the need to respect construction and worker safety regulations in a bid to to end building collapses in Nigeria

Abuja – Nigeria. The Construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA) will run an awareness campaign on the risks of asbestos in the workplace and also to publicise methods of prevention.

Burkina Faso: BWI affiliates mark 28 April by raising awareness of safety for sub-contracted workers

Global building unions’ federation BWI has announced the 28 April plans of its Burkina Faso affiliates.

To mark the day in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso –  the building, construction, wood and forestry unions of Burkina Faso (FTBBF, FNTCS and SNTBB ) will campaign on OHS issue in Cement Companies to create awareness on OHS issue at work place and how to prevent risk for sub-contracting workers.

Ghana: BWI affiliate announces greening and safety awareness plans for 28 April

Global building unions’ federation BWI has announced the 28 April plans of its Ghanaian affiliate Timber and Woodworkers’ Union (TWU).

TWU will hold a workplace Work place greening and tree plantation ceremony to Commemorate IWMD in Kokuago Brang Ahofo  Region, Wiawso, Ghana . TWU will distribute at least 2,000 posters fliers, letters, etc. to workplaces to raise both employer and employee awareness  of workers safety.

TWU will also ensure at least three signatures of the BWI OHS Declaration that work safety be considered a fundamental human right.

 

Ghana: BWI union affiliate GCMQWU and employer call on ILO to declare OHS a fundamental right

The General Construction, Manufacturing and Quarries Workers’ Union of Ghana (GCMQWU) and the Zhongmei Group Engineering Company Ltd. on 12 April signed a declaration recognising the importance of occupational health and safety and calling on the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to declare it as a fundamental worker’s right.
The signing of the declaration is part of BWI and the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers’ (EFBWW) global campaign to build an alliance for workers’ health and safety leading to this year’s International Workers’ Memorial Day on 28 April.
The union said that the declaration was the first to be signed by an employer since the launch of the campaign last week. #SaveLivesAtWork #IWMD21
