Ukraine: Union and employers sign declaration on occupational health and safety

The BWI-affiliated Ukraine Construction and Building Materials Workers’ Union (PROFBUD) and the Ukrainian National Building Chamber (the employers’ and business association of Ukraine) on 15 April signed a joint declaration recognising the importance of safe and healthy workplaces.
The declaration is part of BWI’s “health and safety is our right” campaign leading to the International Workers’ Memorial Day on 28 April. It commits the declaration signatories to policies and practices that promote occupational health and safety. It also supports the call to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to recognise workplace health and safety as a fundamental right. #SaveLivesAtWork #IWMD21

 

Indonesia: Global alliance for health and safe workplaces

SERBUK-affiliated PT BMJ Workers Union and the management of PT Bukit Muria Jaya (BMJ) jointly signed a declaration recognising the need for healthy and safe workplaces. It is the first declaration signed in the Asian region since BWI started the campaign as part of this year’s commemoration of International Workers’ Memorial Day on 28 April.

BMJ produces paper for cigarettes. It is a subsidiary of PT Djarum, the largest cigarette producer in Indonesia behind the brand DJARUM. PT Djarum is in the process of entering the forestry industry. #SaveLivesAtWork #IWMD21

Ghana: BWI union affiliate GCMQWU and employer call on ILO to declare OHS a fundamental right

The General Construction, Manufacturing and Quarries Workers’ Union of Ghana (GCMQWU) and the Zhongmei Group Engineering Company Ltd. on 12 April signed a declaration recognising the importance of occupational health and safety and calling on the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to declare it as a fundamental worker’s right.
The signing of the declaration is part of BWI and the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers’ (EFBWW) global campaign to build an alliance for workers’ health and safety leading to this year’s International Workers’ Memorial Day on 28 April.
The union said that the declaration was the first to be signed by an employer since the launch of the campaign last week. #SaveLivesAtWork #IWMD21
