Europe/Sweden: BWI global youth assembly – pictures
BWI European Youth Assembly (EYA) has just started in Stockholm with the opening speeches of Johan LINDHOLM, President of BYGGNADS, Sweden and BWI European Regional Vice President and Vasyl Andreyev, Interim Chair of BWI International Youth Committee and Jakob Wagner, Youth Secretary of BYGGNADS.
Participants of the BWI European Youth Assembly visited 4 different worksites of Swedish companies JM and PEAB to inspect on OHS conditions in 4 groups. Each group shared their observations to others afterwards and compared the conditions in their respective countries with the conditions in Sweden

EL SALVADOR: SOICSCES inicia actividades del Día Mundial de la Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo 2019
El Sindicato de Obreros de la Industria de la Construcción, Similares y Conexos de El Salvador (SOICSCES), afiliado a la ICM, ha dado inicio a las actividades formativas de conmemoración para el Día Mundial de la Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de este próximo 28 de abril de 2019.
SOICSCES dio inicio a una serie de charlas de capacitación y concientización sobre Salud y Seguridad en el Trabajo (SST) en diferentes proyectos de construcción en San Salvador.
Las actividades del SOICSCES dieron inicio el 8 de abril del 2019 y continuarán durante todo el mes. Además de charlas de capacitación, el SOICSCES está haciendo entrega de material informativo sobre SST a obreros de la construcción y sus familias.
El Salvador: SOICSCES starts activities to commemorate IWMD 2019
The Trade Union of Construction and Allied Workers of El Salvador, SOICSCES, an affiliate of the BWI, has started its activities for International Workers’ Memorial Day to be held on 28 April 2019.
SOICSCES began a series of training and awareness-raising meetings on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in different construction projects in San Salvador.
SOICSCES activities began on 8 April 2019 and will continue throughout the month. In addition to conducting meetings at the workplace, SOICSCES is distributing information material on health and safety to construction workers and their families.

South Asia: Multiple activities planned for International Workers’ Memorial Day
Building Wood Workers’ International (BWI) affiliates in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh have planned a wide range of activities to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day. Those activities will include workshops, roadshows, meetings, candlelight vigils, training, press events, seminars, silicosis screening a mega health camp and a human chain.
INDIA
BMS In Gujarat one-day workshop on occupational health and safety will be held in association with the employer’s association and the Government along with a Road show on construction workers safety and health issues on 28th April.
CFBWU Workers’ awareness meeting on occupational health and safety followed by a candlelight vigil.
INCWF Commemoration at the Lafarge Holcim plant in Chhattisgarh and 28 April commemoration at selected other cement plants across the country.
CLU Health and Safety Training Workshop for District-level and second line leadership in Patna, Bihar State.
AHBWU Mega Health Camp (focusing on stone quarry and construction workers) including screening for silicosis.
TKTMS Workers rally and press meeting in Dharampuri District, Tamil Nadu. Over 1,000 workers are expected to participate. Victims and affected families shall also share experiences at the press meeting.
MAMU Meeting with Workers on health and safety awareness in East Delhi.
PAKISTAN
ACEEU Awareness seminar on safety practices and possible hazards at worksites for construction workers in cooperation with selected employers.
PFBWW Occupational health and safety awareness for union members and local union leadership of the Tarbela T4 project.
NEPAL
NAC Unions are planning specific site level actions with details to follow.
BANGLADESH
BBWWF Workers’ rally and occupational health and safety awareness in Dhaka (including Metro workers) and the Khulna Districts.
BSBWWF Human chain in front of Dhaka Press Club followed by a press meeting on occupational health and safety.
Palestine: Statement and meeting on International Workers’ Memorial Day
In Palestine, Building and Wood Workers International (BWI) affiliate NUBWW will issue a statement on 28th April and organise a meeting with construction workers.
Iraq: GFWCUI to organise 28 April strike in Karbala
In Iraq, BWI construction federation affiliate GFWCUI will organise a 28th April strike at the Lafarge-Holcim Karbala District Plan.
