Belgium: ACV – CSC takes action on the 28 April
Every year ACV – CSC takes action on the 28th of April to raise awareness around health and safety at work. In 2015 focusing on the REFIT-program of the European Commission, several problems within the dangerous substances legislation (occupational limit values, carcinogens and reprotoxic substances) and organising a large information campaign on the use of dangerous substances. Following actions took place:
- In all Belgian companies with workers representatives, but also in some SME’s ACV-CSC distributed leaflets with information on the safe use of dangerous substances, employers and workers obligations. (leaflet in French and Dutch )
- ACV-CSC prepared a publication on the REFIT-program of the European Commission to explain what it is really about, a deregulation of workers rights, also in the field of health and safety (link to the REFIT-publication in French • More information.
- On Tuesday, 28th of April, together with FGTB, CGSLB and ETUC ACV-CSC visited our minister of labor, Kris Peeters and asked him:
- To make sure that REFIT won’t affect the health and safety of workers.
- To defend the necessary revision of the European carcinogens directive with a priority list of 50 binding occupational exposure limits and the integration of the reprotoxic substances in the scope of this directive.
- To defend a harmonisation of OELs in the European Community to prevent disloyal competition at the expense of workers health.
- To take action on a national level to integrate reprotoxics in Belgian legislation on carcinogens.

Netherlands: FNV DEMANDS RECOGNITION of chronic solvent-induced disease VICTIMS
With a wreath at the Workers’ Memorial Monument in Amsterdam, the FNV today commemorates those who have died through work. In the Netherlands, approximately 3,000 employees annually by dirty and dangerous work. This year the theme of the painter disease OPS (chronic solvent-induced disease). FNV director Coen van der Veer: “In the Netherlands we have a group of employees who are seriously ill by exposure to solvents. They are left to their fate. No compensation, no recognition of their miserable position. We want recognition for this group of people which has been hit hard by the work they did. ” more
IWMD 2015: Lafarge Uganda
In Lafarge Uganda, workers commemorated the dead and injured workers, and participated in the global action day by observing a moment of silence with the workers to remember 50 workers who died in lafarge the past two years (2013-26 workers, 2014 to date 24 workers). The union also shared with the workers the global union demands to the new company Lafarge-Holcim. The unionized employees walked through the plant and gathered at the Gate for group photos.

Philippines: Citra Mina workers remember their dead and fight for the living
The Citra Mina Workers Union and their national centre SENTRO commemorated Workers Memorial Day with the families of fishing vessel workers declared lost at sea. Over the past two years, at least 17 workers on vessels fishing for the Citra Mina Group are known to be missing or dead and the union continues to investigate other cases. more

Nuestros afiliados de Colombia y de Venezuela reportan las actividades siguientes:
- FECOTECMAC: Los miembros de la Asociación de Técnicos Constructores del Cesar (Valledupar) realizarán una sesión conmemorativa por los fallecidos y lesionados en accidente de trabajo y darán una charla en su sede sobre salud y seguridad en el la construcción.
- SUTIMAC: Realizarán una charla sobre salud, seguridad e higiene en la industria del cemento en la Planta de Producción de Cementos Argos en Yumbo (Cali); una charla en la Planta de ETERNIT en Cali y una Reunión de Comité Ejecutivo el día martes 28 de abril, donde uno de sus puntos es evaluar los temas de seguridad e higiene ocupacional en la negociación colectiva que dará inicio a mediados de año con la empresa Cementos Argos.
- Curso de Formación Sindical Nivel I. Los participantes del Curso de Formación Sindical Nivel I que está desarrollándose en la ciudad de Medellín, junto a SINDICONS, organización de la Intergremial de trabajadores de la construcción y la Madera de Colombia, plataforma de trabajo de unidad de acción de la ICM en el país harán un alto en sus labores de aprendizaje y formación como promotores sindicales para recordar a los trabajadores fallecidos y lesionados en accidentes de trabajo. El curso que es facilitado por la Escuela nacional Sindical de Medellín es el primero de tres y entre sus materias y asu8gnaciones tiene todo un módulo de formación sobre Salud y Seguridad en el Trabajo en el sector de construcción acorde con la legislación colombiana más reciente.
- SINDICONS: El Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Construcción y Similares de Colombia realizará una charla en sus instalaciones de la Girardotta en la Planta de CONCONCRETO en Medellín ante unos 60 trabajadores.
- ACTEG: Participó del 3° Congreso de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo, organizado por el Departamento de Salud Ocupacional del Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje (SENA) realizado durante los días 24, 25 y 26 de abril de 2015 en la ciudad de Bogotá.
- SUNTIMAVEN de Venezuela: Los compañeros harán paros de minutos y darán charlas en las empresas donde tienen negociación colectiva de la capital en Caracas, Aserraderos Chaguaramas, Fábrica de Escobas Palma Real CA, Aserradero Caucagua CA, Muebles Bima. Ellos esperan que las seccionales del resto del país también se activen como Propulso, MASISA y los trabajadores de las plantaciones forestales del Estado Bolívar en la Amazonía venezolana.
- FETRAMECOL de Colombia: Realizarán una charla en la sede principal de la ciudad de Bogotá con asistencia de sus sindicatos en Bogotá, hablaran sobre técnicas de primeros auxilios y asistencia en caso de accidentes. Finalizarán con la ceremonia de vela y el minuto de silencio en conmemoración y respeto por los fallecidos en accidentes de trabajo.
