Tanzania: Numerous activities will mark International Workers’ Memorial Day

BWI affiliates in Tanzania are planning multiple activities for 28 April.

TAMICO is holding organising through OHS campaign activities at four separate infrastructure project sites via  social media campaign and face to face actions.

TUICO will conduct four joint OHS trainings/in-house training sessions, workplace visits,  inspections and related media work.

 

Egypt: 28 April union activities will raise understanding and awareness of OHS issues

GTUBWW is planning two separate workplace meetings to raise awareness and understanding of work safety and health issues.

Mozambique: Safety, health and climate change conference for International Workers’ Memorial Day

BWI affiliate SINTICM is holding a national conference on 28 April to draw attention to the impact of climate change on occupational safety and health.

Zimbabwe: Campaigns, site visits and workshops on 28 April

CLAWUZ will run workshops and conduct site visits to promote the implementation of OHS as a fundamental human right.

On 28 April GAPWUZ is conducting a workplace safety inspection on the compliance of employers to PPE use and overall safety in the timber industry.

Namibia: Health and safety awareness raising plans for 28 April

BWI affiliate, MANWU will run an International Workers’ Memorial Day safety awareness campaign across several provinces of Namibia.

Nigeria: Nationwide protests to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day

BWI affiliate NUCECFWW is conducting a national action to protest against building collapses in Nigeria. The intention is to make employers understand the necessity of respecting and following construction and safety regulations.

Burkina Faso: Union organised 28 April activities in the construction industry

BWI affiliate SNTBB will be marking International Workers’ Memorial Day by holding a campaign on safety compliance in the construction sector. The intention is to create workplace awareness, in particular in the construction sector.

 

Ghana: Multiple activities to mark 28 April

BWI affiliated unions CBMWU, GCMQWU, PUWU and  PSWU are plunge a joint occupational health and safety campaign. The initiative includes workplace visits to raise safety awareness among workers and to promote and evaluate the impact of safety campaigns in construction.

Another BWI affiliate, TWU, is planning similar activities with workplace visits and discussion on drafting workplace policy with activists, workers and inspectors.

Uganda: UBCCECAWU plans to raise safety awareness to honour fallen workers

UBCCECAWU – The Uganda Building Workers’ Union plans a safety awareness raising campaign at a China Railway construction site.

Rwanda: Numerous activities planned by extractive industries union

The Rwanda Extractive Industries Workers” Union (REWU) has planned a series of site visits, inspections, safety campaigns and commemorations to raise awareness of work hazards and to honour departed workers. The activities will involve unions, workers and the employers.
