In the run up to Workers Memorial Day the TUC has been concentrating on supporting events around the theme “organised workplaces are safer workplaces”.
The page listing all local events is on the front page of the TUC site and we have been promoting all the materials produced as part of the safetyreps@40 campaign.
We are also focusing on looking forward to the future and have today published a guide to going further than the legal minimum, focusing on Roving Safety Reps and Union Improvement Notices.
TUC states a press release and social media will be issued next week.

On April 28, FNV will organise occupational accidents memorial meetings in Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Enschede. They will commemorate the victims of work and stress the role of strong union campaigns for a safe and healthy workplace.
Herdenk jij mee op Workers’ Memorial Day?

Ieder jaar sterven er in Nederland ruim 4.100 werknemers als gevolg van een beroepsziekte of arbeidsongeval. Wereldwijd gaat het jaarlijks zelfs om 2,3 miljoen mensen. Op 28 april, Workers’ Memorial Day, herdenkt FNV op meerdere locaties in het land de werknemers die wereldwijd zijn omgekomen als gevolg van hun werk. Kom jij ook herdenken?
Met deze jaarlijkse herdenkingen wil de FNV, samen met vakbonden over de hele wereld, deze grote groep slachtoffers onder de aandacht brengen en wijzen op de noodzaak van veilige en gezonde werkomstandigheden.
Kom ook naar de herdenking
Op 28 april organiseren FNV en de Stichting Arbeidsongevallen herdenkingsbijeenkomsten in Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam en Enschede. Wij roepen iedereen op om ook naar deze herdenkingen te komen, om samen de slachtoffers van werk te herdenken en als sterke vakbond te laten zien dat wij samen strijden voor een veilige en gezonde werkplek.
Een sterke vakbond
Het belang van een sterke vakbond op de werkvloer om veilig en gezond te kunnen werken is het thema van Workers’ Memorial Day 2018. Goed georganiseerde werknemers en sterke kaderleden zorgen ervoor dat onveilig en ongezonde situaties binnen hun eigen bedrijf samen aangepakt worden, zodat collega’s hun werk kunnen doen zonder gevaar voor hun leven. Blootstelling aan gevaarlijke stoffen is al jaren de grootste oorzaak van overlijden door werk. Nog steeds worden in veel bedrijven groepen werknemers blootgesteld aan kankerverwekkende stoffen, van uitlaatgassen uit dieselmotoren tot aan de asbest bij Eurogrit. Samen strijden wij er als sterke vakbond voor dat werknemers hun werk veilig en gezond kunnen doen.
Locaties, aanvang en programma herdenkingen
De herdenkingen vinden op 28 april op de volgende locaties plaats:
- Het Centraal Vakbondshuis in Utrecht
Deze herdenking vindt om 12:00 uur plaats en zal ongeveer 15 minuten duren, met een kranslegging, toespraken van het dagelijks bestuur van de FNV en van de Stichting Arbeidsongevallen, en een moment stilte. Het Facet is voor de herdenking geopend en aanwezigen krijgen een lunch aangeboden. - Edo Fimmen-monument in Rotterdam
Om 17:30 uur bij het Edo Fimmen-monument in Rotterdam. - Regiokantoor FNV in Amsterdam
Om 12:00 uur bij het regiokantoor van FNV in Amsterdam. - Lokaal Vakbondshuis Hengelo
Van 11.45 tot 12.45 uur bij het lokale vakbondshuis in Hengelo.
España: Campaña USO 28 Abril: Con la prevención no se juega
Estimado,
Un año más desde USO conmemoramos el Día Internacional de la Seguridad y la Salud en el Trabajo, denunciando el aumento de la siniestralidad laboral y el ocultamiento de las enfermedades profesionales en nuestro país. Sin que este hecho tan grave provoque un debate social al respecto, sin que el hecho de que perdamos la vida y la salud en el trabajo no esté en la agenda política, ni dentro de las prioridades de las distintas administraciones públicas. En 2017, que lamentar y denunciar, que fueron 618 los trabajadores y trabajadoras que perdieron la vida en su jornada laboral o en el trayecto de ida o vuelta del trabajo
Por ello, desde USO este año lanzamos nuestra campaña que lleva como lema “Con la Prevención no se juega”. Que consta de cartel, manifiesto y dos dípticos en formato de preguntas frecuentes muy vinculados a la acción sindical en salud laboral en los centros de trabajo sobre las funciones de delegados de prevención y el papel de la Inspección de Trabajo.

Workers Memorial Day, April 28, is just around the corner. Events will be held in communities and workplaces across the country. In addition, trade unionists around the globe are also observing Workers Memorial Day.
The theme of this year’s Workers Memorial Day is “Safe Jobs. Every Worker’s Right.” We are highlighting the progress made, the need to protect hard-won protections from threats and rollbacks and work still to be done.
To assist you with your planned events or activities, we have prepared a Workers Memorial Day Toolkit. It includes talking points, sample materials for media outreach, worker safety and health facts, state-by-state safety and health data and other information. It can be downloaded at:
