Workers’ Memorial Day (April 28th) is a powerful reminder to people in positions of influence and power about their vital role in fostering safe and healthy workplaces, says the Business Leaders’ Health and Safety Forum.
More than 287 work-related deaths have been reported to WorkSafe since 2010. “But the actual death toll is much higher because that figure doesn’t include deaths from work-related road crashes, occupational illnesses or maritime or aviation deaths,” says Forum Acting Executive Director Frances Martin.

Argentina: 28 de abril – Día Mundial de las Víctimas del Trabajo – Bartolome Mitre 575 – 12 horas
Bajo esta consigna, ATE Capital y CTA Capital resolvieron, por iniciativa de la Secretaria de Salud Laboral realizar una concentración y radio abierta en la Sub Secretaria de Trabajo del Gobierno de la Ciudad -Bartolome Mitre 575 – el martes 28 de Abril a las 12.30 horas, en el Día mundial de las Víctimas del Trabajo en un planeta globalizado por el neoliberalismo.
Para poder entender qué conmemoramos los trabajadores el 28 de abril tenemos que saber que ese día del año 1987 murieron en un accidente 28 trabajadores en Bridgeport (Connecticut) EE.UU. Aunque unos años antes el Congreso Canadiense del Trabajo (C.l.C.) es quien organiza un día anual de luto el 28 de abril. Ese día las banderas ondean a media asta. Los orígenes de esta fecha tienen como objetivo convertir a las víctimas de trabajo en protagonistas en contra de la cultura basada en la culpabilización de dichas víctimas. Se reunían bajo el slogan “recordando a los trabajadores muertos, para luchar por los vivos”.
Por eso “…¿Quiénes son los protagonistas de la defensa de la salud de los trabajadores?
En tiempos de crisis con millones de trabajadores desocupados, en situación de pobreza y precariedad, de exclusión social el indicador de salud laboral ya no puede ser el lugar de trabajo, sino ha de ser el trabajador y la trabajadora en edad activa, allí donde se encuentren.

À une époque où l’atterrissage d’une sonde spatiale sur un astéroïde nous étonne à peine, comment est-il possible que les grandes industries puissent continuer de tuer les travailleurs comme jadis ?
Le professeur Michael Quinlan a étudié les causes des tragédies qui se produisent sur les lieux de travail. Il est parvenu à une conclusion claire : c’est un manque de volonté, et non un manque de savoir-faire, qui est à l’origine des « dix chemins qui mènent à la mort et à la catastrophe ».
« Les chaînes d’approvisionnement mondiales contribuent de plus en plus à la dégradation des normes de sécurité en déplaçant le travail vers des pays dont les normes de sécurité sont minimes et qui ne suivent pas de protocoles pour améliorer les modalités des programmes de libre-échange. C’est exactement ce qu’illustre l’effondrement du Rana Plaza en 2013 au Bangladesh, où plus de 1100 personnes avaient été tuées, principalement des ouvriers du prêt-à-porter qui fabriquaient des vêtements destinés en grande partie aux pays occidentaux ».
« Ces faits parlent d’eux-mêmes et révèlent que, contrairement à ce qui est annoncé dans les beaux discours, la sécurité au travail n’occupe pas la première place, ni même la deuxième ou la troisième, en ce qui concerne les priorités des gouvernements ou de la plupart des entreprises ».
