GIORNATA TRAGICA PER IL MONDO DEL LAVORO, TRE MORTI IN POCHE ORE. DOMANI I SINDACATI DEGLI EDILI IN PIAZZA SANTI APOSTOLI A ROMA “Giornata tragica oggi per il mondo del lavoro. Nel giro di poche ore due incidenti hanno stroncato la vita di tre lavoratori, due dei quali in un cantiere della ferrovia Bolzano-Brennero, dove altri tre operai sono rimasti gravemente feriti, ed uno a Roma, schiacciato dalla gru che stava manovrando in un depuratore. Esprimiamo tutta la nostra vicinanza alle famiglie delle vittime ed auguriamo ai feriti una pronta guarigione, al tempo stesso chiediamo alle istituzioni ed al Paese intero di interrogarci tutti sul che fare per salvaguardare la salute e la vita di chi lavora ed assumerci una volta per tutte la responsabilità di agire concretamente e coerentemente per impedire questa strage intollerabile di innocenti” è quanto affermano i segretari nazionali di Feneal Filca Fillea, Sannino, Salvatore e Behri. I sindacati degli edili in questi giorni sono al lavoro per l’appuntamento annuale del SafeDay, la giornata mondiale della salute e sicurezza sui luoghi di lavoro “nella nostra iniziativa in programma il
28 aprile avremmo voluto concentrarci su cultura e prevenzione della sicurezza – proseguono i sindacati – ma quanto accaduto oggi ci impone un cambio, concentrando invece il nostro messaggio sulla strage di innocenti che non si arresta” per questo ancora una volta “chiederemo a Governo ed istituzioni di agire per tenere alta l’attenzione ed intervenire con azioni concrete, in termini di controlli, regole certe ed esigibili, sanzioni esemplari per chi mette a rischio la vita dei propri dipendenti limitando gli investimenti nella sicurezza.” In particolare, dai sindacati verrà rilanciato il grido d’allarme sui lavoratori anziani “non si può trascurare il fatto che a morire siano moltissimi lavoratori over 60, costretti a restare sulle impalcature anche a quest’età e a svolgere un lavoro così pesante e rischioso. Per questo chiediamo per gli edili di estendere i criteri che permettono l’accesso all’ape agevolata”
proseguono i segretari di Feneal Filca Fillea, che chiederanno inoltre di “completare l’attuazione del decreto 81/2008 con la costituzione della patente a punti, procedere con una decretazione d’urgenza per i lavoratori impegnati nei cantieri stradali, rafforzare il contrasto a lavoro nero e irregolare, ripristinare il Durc nella sua formula originaria, definire norme premiali per le imprese virtuose che investono in formazione e sicurezza e applicano il contratto edile.
L’iniziativa Feneal Filca Fillea del SafeDay2017 è in programma per domani 28 aprile in Piazza SS Apostoli dalle ore 10.30 alle 11.30.

Muchas personas en todo el mundo arriesgan sus vidas diariamente al ir a trabajar. En las maquilas, rastros y minas, en las granjas, plataformas petrolíferas y en la construcción, las condiciones de trabajo pueden ser extremadamente peligrosas, incluso mortales. Según la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT), más de 2,3 millones de trabajadores mueren en el trabajo cada año (pero este número es una estimación baja, ya que muchos países no monitorean con precisión los accidentes y muertes en el trabajo).
Según la AFL-CIO (la conglomeración de sindicatos estadounidenses), en Estados Unidos en el 2015 murieron 4.836 trabajadores en el trabajo y se estima que entre 50.000 y 60.000 trabajadores murieron de enfermedades relacionadas con el trabajo, lo que significa que 150 trabajadores mueren diariamente debido a condiciones de trabajo peligrosas. Las muertes laborales entre latinas/os y afroamericanos han alcanzado el nivel más alto desde el 2008.
Trabajadores y activistas en todo el mundo y en todas las industrias se han organizado para mejorar las condiciones de trabajo y la seguridad en su lugar de trabajo. En muchos países han logrado horarios más cortos, mejores salarios, provisión de equipo de protección y restricción de muchos de los productos químicos que dañan la salud. Lamentablemente hasta estas protecciones básicas ahora están bajo ataque; reducir las protecciones de seguridad laboral solo conduce a un mayor número de muertes relacionadas con el trabajo.
El libro Salud y seguridad laboral: Una guía para trabajadores de Hesperian, que está en proceso de edición, es un recurso que las trabajadoras y trabajadores pueden usar para aprender acerca de la salud y la seguridad laboral básicas, para convertirse en defensores de su propia salud y para pasar de la lucha individual a la lucha colectiva para lograr lugares de trabajo más seguros. El libro incluye actividades útiles y historias reales de lucha y éxito que apoyarán la organización y los esfuerzos de salud.
Mañana, honramos a las personas que han perdido la vida en y por el trabajo y nos comprometemos de nuevo a la lucha para asegurar que nadie pierda la vida por y en el trabajo. Como la incansable activista laboral Mary “Mother” Jones solía decir: ¡Recordemos a los muertos y luchemos por los vivos!

Let’s push the governments and relevant organizations for the collection of reliable OSH data for sustainable action
International Workers’ Memorial Day takes place annually around the world on April 28 as a day of remembrance and action for workers killed, disabled, injured or made unwell by their work.
According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), across the world:
However, the above-mentioned data are years old and not being updated on a regular basis due to challenges associated with occupational safety and health (OSH) data collection in many countries of the world particularly in the Asia and Pacific region.
The ILO recognize that the collection and utilization of reliable OSH data are indispensable for the detection of new hazards and emerging risks, the identification of hazardous sectors, the development of preventive measures, as well as the implementation of policies, systems and programmes at international, national and enterprise levels. OSH data provide the basis for setting priorities and measuring progress.
Asian Network for the Rights of Occupational and Environmental Victims (ANROEV) and its partner organizations Asia Monitor Resource Centre (AMRC) published a report in 2012 titled “Invisible Victims of Development – Workers Health and Safety in Asia” to highlight the severity of the problem on the ground in Asia with a detailed report from 6 Asian countries: China, India, Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.
The absence of figures also highlights the invisibility of impacted workers and their families and most of the time even denial about their existence by governments in the region.
Yet they exist on the ground — impacted due to hazardous conditions at work and denied justice in terms of compensation, rehabilitation and dignity forming the most marginalized and exploited section of society.
Under the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and multiple ILO OSH conventions, recommendations and protocols, countries have committed to the collection and utilization of reliable OSH data. However, following are many of the recognized challenges associated with OSH data collection, which are organized into the following four categories: A) Coverage; B) Accuracy; C) Comparability; and D) Timeliness.
On the International Workers’ Memorial Day 2017 let’s continue to push the governments and relevant organizations for the collection of reliable OSH data so that workers health and safety in the world particularly in Asia can no longer be invisible, therefore, can be properly taken care of to uphold the four basic workers’ rights on OSH:

April 28th is Workers’ Memorial Day, when we honor and remember those who have lost their lives at and because of their work. This year’s theme “Strong Laws, Safe Work” highlights the importance of fighting for workers’ right to health and safety, especially now, as workplace protections are increasingly threatened in the US and worldwide.  Many people around the world risk their lives daily by going to work. In factories, slaughterhouses and mines, on farms, oil rigs and construction sites, working conditions can be extremely hazardous, even deadly. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), more than 2.3 million workers are killed on the job each year (this number is a low estimate, as many countries do not accurately track workplace accidents and deaths). According to the AFL-CIO, in the US, “4,836 workers were killed on the job in 2015 and an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 workers died from occupational diseases, which means that 150 workers died each day from hazardous working conditions.” Injury and death rates among Latina/o and Black workers are the highest they have been since 2008. Workers and activists have organized to improve working conditions and workplace safety in all types of environments. In many countries, they have achieved much — shorter working hours, better pay, the provision of protective equipment, and restrictions on many of the most dangerous chemicals. But even these common-sense protections are now under attack, and the rollback in safety is sure to increase the daily death toll on the job. Hesperian’s Workers’ Guide to Health and Safety is a resource workers can use to learn about basic health and safety, to become leaders of their own health, and to move from the individual to the collective fight for safer workplaces. The book includes activities and real-life stories of struggle and success that will support organizing and health efforts. Tomorrow, let’s all join the day of remembrance for the people who’ve lost their lives at and from work. But the day after that, let’s join the fight to ensure nobody loses their lives because they went to work. As Mary “Mother” Jones said: Mourn for the dead and fight like hell for the living! |
