USA: USMWF plans series of 28 April billboards

April 28, 2018 is Workers’ Memorial Day and this year USMWF would like to honor and remember our fallen workers in a special way. But, USMWF cannot do this without your help! They are looking for multiple Sponsors to help rent billboards for one month being displayed in the following City/States. Omaha, Nebraska; Lincoln, Nebraska; Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Cadillac, Michigan; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Fort Worth, Texas; Lexington, KY; Akron, Indiana; Las Vegas, Nevada;

Envoyons ensemble un signal fort à la direction de LafargeHolcim en demandant de:

  • Commencer à améliorer conjointement la situation en matière de santé et de sécurité chez LafargeHolcim !
  • Impliquer les travailleurs et travailleuses ainsi que leurs syndicats dans le dialogue sur la santé et la sécurité !
  • Arrêter les approches par le haut en matière de santé et de sécurité !

Global: Send a strong signal toward LafargeHolcim management on IWMD!

Global construction union federation BWI says it is time to send a strong signal toward LH management in order to improve health and safety and respect workers’ lives! They call upon YOU ALL to take action on 28 April, the International commemoration day for dead and injured workers, and demand:

LafargeHolcim, keep your promise: respect workers’ lives!

  • Start improving jointly the health and safety situation at LafargeHolcim!

  • Involve workers and their trade unions in the health and safety dialogue!

  • No more top-down approaches in health and safety!

Global construction union BWI is asking affiliates to start planning for International Workers Memorial Day.

BWI has produced a guide: Unions Make Work Safer – Reclaim Our Rights On Site! and also suggested ideas for organising a 28 April event of your own.

USA: Webinars for organising on 28 April in English and Spanish

The National Council for Occupation Safety and Health (NCOSH) is holding two Workers Memorial webinars:

In English – Thursday, 15 February, 2pm ET / 11am PT

In Spanish – Thursday, 22 February , 2pm ET / 11am PT
En español – Jueves, 2/22, 2pm ET / 11am PT

This Thursday, a panel of family members, worker center and COSH leaders and allies will discuss ways to promote a meaningful Workers Memorial Week including:

– Building relationships with families impacted by work fatalities

– Creating compelling stories behind the numbers

– Engaging and preparing injured and ill workers as spokespeople

– Getting the attention of journalists

Britain: Resources for Workers’ Memorial Day

 

Hazards Campaign has produced a set of useful resources for International Workers’ Memorial Day 2018 (#iwmd18) – download the order form here.
