Two separate Building and Wood Worker’s International – BWI – affiliates are planning activities for International Workers’ Memorial Day.
BWI-MLC Malaysian affiliates will attend the MTUC-organised commemoration event on 27 April in Kuala Lumpur, which will focus on the health and safety of young workers.
UECI The Union of Employees in the Construction Industry will send a protest letter to the Minister of Human Resources demanding action on health and safety for tower crane operators.
BWI affiliate Building and Wood Workers Federation of Myanmar (BWFM) is organising its IWMD action alongside the national centre, CTUM. They will bring 150 members, and will establish booths to pass information to workers. They expect around 150 of the members to attend. Additionally, on the 27th Brother Min Min Lat will participate as a panelist in a tripartite talk show on OSH in the construction sector, which will show on television in the 28th. CTUM homepage
On 28 April Building and Wood Worker’s International (BWI) affiliate SERBUK will hold an action outside the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises to protest work accidents on government infrastructure projects, then continue in front of the Presidential Palace. They will raise OSH and asbestos issues, and are expecting around 100-150 participants.

Pukul 12. 00 -13.30 WIB Aksi di Kantor Kemeneg BUMN untuk memprotes minimnya keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja buruh-buruh yang bekerja di sektor konstruksi pada proyek infrastruktur pemerintah dan juga korban kecelakaan kerja di berbagai perusahaan BUMN (PLN, Pertamina, dll). Pukul 13.30-16.30 Aksi akan dilanjutkan di Bundaran Patung Kuda/Indosat.
Aksi ini merupakan rangkaian peringatan Hari Buruh Internasional (#MayDay2018) sekaligus mendesak pemerintah menciptakan kondisi keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja bagi semua buruh.

Global Union Federation Building and Wood Worker’s International (BWI) affiliate FGBB is organising worksite visits and brochure distribution to mark 28 April in Tunisia. The action is targeted at union members, workers, union leaders and employers.
National Initiative in Rome on April 27 – International Workers Memorial Day
The three BWI affiliated Italian Federations of building, wood, building materials and stones sectors, FenealUil, Filca Cisl and Fillea Cgil at national level, organize a sit-in on April 27, in Rome, Piazza SS. Apostoli at 11.00 a.m. followed by a Press Conference in occasion of the International Workers Memorial Day.
The three Italian Federations jointly produced a flyer (left) #BASTAMORTISULLAVORO [#STOPDEATHATWORK ] (the flyer can also be printed in poster size) soliciting the trade union structures to organize union assemblies, leaflets, moments of silence in memory of the dead workers in the workplace or other specific initiatives at the local level in Italy.
The Italian Federations recall that on this important day several trade unions worldwide will organize similar initiatives and believe it is essential to give their own contribution to such an important occasion to remember the victims at work and to make citizens and institutions aware of Health and Safety at work, especially for building sector that remains, unfortunately, among the most exposed to the risk of accidents.
For this reason, the National Federations ask their trade union structures at territorial level to inform about any initiatives organized at the territorial level, in order to share them in the press releases that will be sent to the press, on the websites and on the social networks.
The Italian Federations, also inform that the Health and Safety will be the core issue of the celebration the Workers’ Day on May 1, jointly organized in Prato (Tuscany) with the slogan “SAFETY: THE HEART OF WORK”
Poland: 28 kwietnia 2018 r. – Światowy Dzień Bezpieczeństwa i Ochrony Zdrowia w Pracy
W dniu 28 kwietnia 2018 r. (przypadającym w najbliższą sobotę), jak co roku obchodzimy Światowy Dzień Bezpieczeństwa i Ochrony Zdrowia w Pracy – koordynowany i promowany przez Międzynarodową Organizację Pracy (MOP). Przez związki zawodowe na całym świecie jest on obchodzony pod nazwą Międzynarodowy Dzień Pamięci Ofiar Wypadków przy Pracy i Chorób Zawodowych.
W tym roku hasło Dnia brzmi: MŁODZI BEZPIECZNI W PRACY, a tematem wiodącym obchodów jest poprawa bezpieczeństwa i zdrowia młodych pracowników. Poprzez wybrany temat MOP kieruje naszą uwagę na szczególną podatność młodych osób na zagrożenia związane z pracą. Młodzi charakteryzują się bowiem brakiem doświadczenia zawodowego i świadomości zagrożeń występujących w środowisku pracy, a ich niepewna pozycja zawodowa sprawia, że przyjmują na siebie zadania o niskim poziomie bezpieczeństwa.

Am 28. April wird in vielen Ländern weltweit der Workers’ Memorial Day begangen. In Deutschland rufen IG BAU und DGB für diesen Tag dazu auf, der Kolleginnen und Kollegen zu gedenken, die im Rahmen ihrer beruflichen Tätigkeit aufgrund von Unfall oder Berufskrankheit ums Leben kamen.
Im Vorfeld des Workers‘ Memorial Day rufen wir Euch für Freitag, 27. April, 12 Uhr zu einer bundesweiten Schweigeminute auf. Lasst die Arbeit in den Betrieben, auf den Baustellen und in den Objekten ruhen und gedenkt den durch einen Arbeits- oder Wegeunfall wie auch denen an einer Berufskrankheit verstorbenen Kolleginnen und Kollegen.
Der zentrale ökumenische Gedenkgottesdienst mit muslimischer und jüdischer Beteiligung beginnt am Samstag, 28. April, um 15 Uhr in der Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche in Berlin.
Auch der IG BAU-Bezirksverband Nord-West-Sachsen lädt für den 28. April zu einem Gedenkgottesdienst ein. Beginn ist um 9 Uhr in der Leipziger Thomaskirche.
