{"id":7333,"date":"2025-04-24T15:15:44","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T14:15:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/28april.org\/?p=7333"},"modified":"2025-04-24T16:59:18","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T15:59:18","slug":"ireland-marking-workers-memorial-day-28-april-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/28april.org\/?p=7333","title":{"rendered":"Ireland: Marking Workers&#8217; Memorial Day &#8211; 28 April 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/28april.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/ictu.jpg\"><img src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/GpORQsyW4AEmLHe?format=jpg&amp;name=small\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Congress,\u00a0along with the Government, the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), Ibec, and the CIF will collectively mark\u00a0Workers\u2019\u00a0Memorial Day on Monday April 28 at the national and annual commemorative event to remember people who died, were injured, made ill and bereaved through work-related accidents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Together, we are inviting you to join us at\u00a0<strong>09.30 AM on Monday 28 April\u00a0<\/strong>to support this national day of commemoration. We are also asking your union to mark the day by considering a range of suggested initiatives, see below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Congress\u00a0General\u00a0Secretary\u00a0Owen\u00a0Reidy\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0joined\u00a0by\u00a0Conor\u00a0O\u2019Brien\u00a0CEO\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Health\u00a0&amp; Safety Authority and a Government representative to lay a wreath on behalf of the State to remember those workers we have lost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Please\u00a0join\u00a0us\u00a0to mark\u00a0this\u00a0important\u00a0occasion:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Date:\u00a0Monday\u00a028\u00a0April 2025<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><strong>Venue:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Garden\u00a0of\u00a0Remembrance,\u00a0Parnell\u00a0Square,\u00a0Dublin\u00a01<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><strong>Time:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Gather\u00a0from\u00a009.20,\u00a0event\u00a0starts\u00a0at\u00a00.930-10.30<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">In Ireland in the ten-year period between 2015 and 2024, 446 people died in work-related incidents and many thousands more were severely injured or made ill.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">In 2024 alone, 33 people died in work-related incidents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">These\u00a0are\u00a0unacceptable\u00a0figures\u00a0which\u00a0can\u00a0be\u00a0reduced\u00a0through\u00a0a\u00a0combined\u00a0and\u00a0intensified\u00a0effort<\/span>\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">by\u00a0all\u00a0concerned.\u00a0By\u00a0working\u00a0together\u00a0and\u00a0promoting\u00a0the\u00a0practice\u00a0of\u00a0safety\u00a0and\u00a0health\u00a0in\u00a0workplaces throughout Ireland we will achieve a significant drop in these dreadful numbers.\u00a0We all have a responsibility to make sure that happens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">We\u00a0would\u00a0warmly\u00a0welcome\u00a0your\u00a0attendance\u00a0at\u00a0this\u00a0commemorative\u00a0event.\u00a0Please\u00a0mark\u00a0this\u00a0date\u00a0now in your calendar and RSVP to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:Natalie.higgins@ictu.ie\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Natalie.higgins@ictu.ie.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><strong>Consider marking the day by:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Social media content.
