Cualquier persona deber\u00eda saber que tiene derecho a esperar que se haga todo lo necesario para garantizar su seguridad en el trabajo.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPedimos por tanto que la Organizaci\u00f3n Internacional del Trabajo (OIT) adopte la salud y seguridad como un derecho fundamental en el trabajo. Resulta tan fundamental como la libertad sindical o la eliminaci\u00f3n del trabajo forzoso, el trabajo infantil y la discriminaci\u00f3n en el empleo\u201d, asegur\u00f3 la Secretaria General de la CSI, Sharan Burrow.<\/p>\n<p>Han transcurrido ya tres a\u00f1os desde que la Conferencia del Centenario de la OIT acord\u00f3 hacerlo. En ese tiempo alrededor de 8,1 millones de personas han perdido la vida por culpa de su trabajo, y muchas otras sufren lesiones y enfermedades que han cambiado sus vidas porque sus empleadores no las protegieron debidamente.<\/p>\n<p>Sharan Burrow contin\u00faa afirmando que \u201cLa pandemia de COVID-19 ha venido a demostrar sin lugar a dudas que la gente trabajadora no puede seguir esperando un cambio al respecto. Las muertes en el lugar de trabajo son evitables y las \u00faltimas cifras indican que se produce al menos una muerte cada diez segundos en el trabajo. La OIT dar\u00eda as\u00ed un primer paso para poner fin a esta tremenda cifra de v\u00edctimas mortales y de lesiones\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>M\u00e1s que un derecho fundamental<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La CSI y sus afiliadas piden adem\u00e1s a los Gobiernos que tomen medidas para:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ratificar e implementar los convenios b\u00e1sicos de la OIT sobre salud y seguridad;<\/li>\n<li>ratificar e implementar todos los convenios sectoriales o sobre riesgos laborales espec\u00edficos;<\/li>\n<li>establecer organismos nacionales sobre salud y seguridad agrupando a representantes de sindicatos y patronal;<\/li>\n<li>requerir servicios de salud laboral para todos y acordar la debida compensaci\u00f3n, incluyendo el reconocimiento de la COVID-19 como enfermedad laboral.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cLos empleadores han de responsabilizarse de evaluar y erradicar riesgos en sus centros de trabajo y a lo largo de la cadena de suministros, y consultar a los sindicatos respecto a medidas de prevenci\u00f3n por medio de comit\u00e9s de salud y seguridad en el lugar de trabajo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEs necesario asimismo que la OIT haga mucho m\u00e1s y aborde desaf\u00edos como el estr\u00e9s en el trabajo, los trastornos musculo-esquel\u00e9ticos, adem\u00e1s de elaborar un convenio sobre riesgos biol\u00f3gicos como la COVID-19. Resulta urgente que la COVID-19 se reconozca como la amenaza que supone en los lugares de trabajo.
